What happens during neck liposuction?

Dr. Laverson begins the liposuction procedure by marking the treatment area for maximum accuracy.  Depending on the scope of the treatment, the amount of fat to be removed, and other factors, he arranges for local anesthesia, with or without IV sedation. General anesthesia is also available. Once the patient is settled and comfortable, Dr. Laverson makes one or two small incisions concealed beneath the chin or behind the ears. Next, he inserts a thin instrument through the incisions and injects a solution that helps to minimize bleeding and further numb the area. He then uses a device with a small hollow wand (a cannula) and a mechanical pump to break through the tough connective tissue and suction out the fat. 

Dr. Laverson may change cannulas depending whether he is debulking the submental fat or sculpting the neck and jaw contours. After completing the treatment, he closes the incisions with fine, discreet stitches and surgical adhesives and skin tape.
