Smooth Facial Wrinkles with Skin Resurfacing

Restore Your Skin with Laser Skin Resurfacing & Chemical Peels

Youthful attractive skin is smooth, unblemished, consistent in color and texture, and applied snugly over underlying anatomy with contours that reflect deeper musculo-skeletal structures.  Healthy skin moves with the body and rebounds after application of pressure because of its elasticity.  Aging, environmentally damaged skin is more loosely applied to underlying anatomy and is variably pigmented.  Lines of flexion and movement worn into the skin over the years deepen with contraction of muscles beneath the skin (dynamic creases), and remain even at rest (static creases).

Laser Skin Resurfacing and Chemical Peels inflict precisely controlled injury to the skin surface.

Energy applied to the skin vaporizes (laser) or coagulates (chemical peel) the most superficial layers of skin.  Damaged surface elements then slough, and pigment within these surface layers disappears.  Deeper dermal connective tissue is heated, but recovers from the reversible treatment injury.  Healing from the laser or chemical peel controlled injury occurs during weeks to months after treatment, and consists of many complex phenomena.  Of most importance to restoration of youthful appearing smoother skin is new collagen production and perhaps activation of elastin, as well as restoration of epidermal thickness.  The net effect is smoother, tighter skin with evening of pigmentation.

For lighter complexions especially, chemical peels offer quick, inexpensive rejuvenation.  Peels are adjusted to your needs, softening fine wrinkles, dull skin, and surface pigmentation of sun damage.  Sun protection following your peel is essential.  Our standard TCA peels heal in days with essentially NO down time.  A Monday peel will result in a mild sun-burned appearance, usually healed and glowing by Friday!

At Feel Beautiful Plastic Surgery, Dr. Steve Laverson uses his Luxar carbon dioxide laser with fiberoptic delivery system and rotating handpiece to “resurface” aging, sun-damaged, finely wrinkled, loose, sagging, or acne-scarred facial skin.

Anesthesia is required. The laser beam penetrates to a precisely controlled depth of skin surface. Carbon dioxide wavelength vaporizes only the most superficial layer of damaged skin. In reality, it is NOT the laser that rejuvenates skin, the laser only creates a calculated, reversible injury.

Natural wound healing processes resurface the skin for a smoother, more youthful appearance during weeks to months after treatment. The first two weeks are the most demanding for patients. Skin care during the period of healing is important to achieve the best result.

Medium Peels (Chemical Peels) Treatments – San Diego, CA

Aging, sun damage, and the buildup of dead skin cells result in dull, discolored skin, acne breakouts, and premature lines and wrinkles. Chemical peels improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck or hands with the use of an acidic solution to exfoliate the outer layers. Depending on the chemical solution, facial peels can penetrate at different depths to treat various types of skin concerns, removing the damaged skin and revealing the fresh, new skin beneath. Exfoliation encourages skin cell regeneration and softens acne scars. Chemical peels improve skin tone and texture, correct hyperpigmentation and discoloration, minimize the appearance of fine lines, and result in a healthy, youthful-looking complexion.

Chemical peels are one of the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedures performed to rejuvenate the appearance of the skin. Over time, factors such as sun damage, heredity, diet, and repetitive muscle movement contribute to the formation of lines and wrinkles in the face. Additionally, the development of pigmentation irregularities or acne scars can cause skin to lose its smooth, youthful appearance. Often performed on the face, neck, and hands, various types of chemical peels can reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles, scars, and uneven pigmentation, as well as treat pre-cancerous skin lesions. Dr. Laverson’s plastic surgery center provides the highest level of experience, professionalism.

Types of chemical peels

Chemical peels are available in varying levels of intensity, categorized by their depth of penetration.

  • Light chemical peels remove only the superficial layer of skin (epidermis).  Light chemical peels lighten and brighten skin for a beautiful healthy glow. Also known as the “lunchtime peel”, the light chemical peel is associated with zero downtime.

Best for: uneven skin tone, dryness, acne, or fine lines.

  • Medium chemical peels remove skin from the outer layer (epidermis) and the upper part of the middle layer (dermis). Medium peels improve the tone and texture of skin, with longer lasting results than light peels. Generally, you’ll need to schedule one to two weeks of downtime for recovery after a medium peel.

Best for: acne scars, rosacea, age spots, uneven skin texture, fine lines and wrinkling

  • Deep chemical peels penetrate down to the lower part of the dermis. Deep chemical peels provide the most dramatic results, leaving you with fresher, smoother, brighter, tighter skin that lasts for 12 to 24 months. They do, however, require significant downtime and pretreatment preparations as well.

Best for: deep wrinkles, scars, severe photoaging

Chemical Peel FAQs

Chemical peels work by removing layers of damaged skin, which encourages skin cell regeneration. The skin that grows after a chemical peel is fresh, new, and blemish-free.  The result is skin that appears smoother and tighter, with less pigmentation and scarring.

Chemical peels work for all skin types, but it’s important to work with a skincare professional to ensure that you’re getting the right chemical peel for your skin’s needs. If the peel is too deep, too strong, or remains on too long for your skin type, it could result in dark spots.  If you have a history of abnormal scarring, or if you take certain medications, you may not be a good candidate for chemical peels. A skilled and experienced skincare professional will be able to examine your skin and help you find the right skin resurfacing treatment that minimizes your risk of pigmentation.

Different people can respond differently to the same treatment, so there’s no exact healing time that goes for everyone. In general, however, a light peel may only warrant resting on the day of the procedure, with some flaking and peeling for 4-7 few days. After a medium peel, most people take at least a week off work, and the healing process takes around 7-14 days. Downtime after a deep peel is typically around 2 weeks, and it takes 14-21 days to complete the healing process.

At Feel Beautiful Plastic Surgery, we use a Luxar carbon dioxide laser, which has a fibre optic delivery system and rotating hand piece. The system works by resurfacing skin that is ageing, sun damaged, finely wrinkled, loose, sagging, or scarred by acne.
