Radiesse® is the brand name for an excellent structural soft tissue volumizing product that when properly used, can soften and correct features of facial aging.
Marketed by Merz® Pharmaceuticals, the active component of Radiesse® is calcium hydroxyapatite, the mineral content of bone. Radiesse® is a thicker and longer-lasting product than hyaluronan gels. The most common applications for Radiesse® are in the rejuvenation of smile lines and other areas of aging skin and soft tissue around the lips. Radiesse® should not be used in fine surface wrinkles or in the very mobile soft lips themselves because it is white and maybe seen through thin skin if injected just beneath the surface.
Radiesse for lips
Also, Radiesse® is not as soft in texture as injectable gels. Radiesse® is best used to correct contours of aging resulting from soft tissue loss and/or descent. Dr. Laverson applies this product most often for patients with thicker skin for contour aging. Areas for treatment are anesthetized in advance, and blunt cannulas are most often used for treatment. There is usually minimal discomfort involved, and return to normal activities essentially instantaneous. The most common complications are transient bruising and swelling, but more prolonged skin discoloration has resulted.
High levels of patient satisfaction have been reported among those treated with Radiesse®. The duration of the effect is up to one year or longer in many cases. More details about Radiesse®, patient testimonials, and answers to frequently asked questions are provided by Merz at Radiesse online. Dr. Laverson has achieved outstanding results with Radiesse, and uses the product frequently, both as a stand-alone treatment and in combination with other measures.
