One definition of dignity is "The presence of poise and self-respect in one's deportment to a degree that inspires respect." The goal of most cosmetic surgery, in Dr. Laverson's opinion, is to preserve or improve personal dignity. For many women, the motivation for breast augmentation is to improve their own self-respect, or phrased differently, confidence. Implant size, position, and quality of result is critical to achieving this larger goal. Disproportionately large implants, insufficient augmentation, or a poor overall result can detract from personal dignity. In this case, a moderate augmentation improved femininity of her shape. Although the procedure costs several thousand dollars, over the long term, the value of the effect to her, and so many women, is priceless.
