Juvederm® is a naturally occurring water loving sterile gel produced and purified by Allergan®, Inc. and approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration for injection by qualified professionals into facial lines and creases to smooth their appearance by filling soft tissue just beneath the skin surface in the depth of the fold. Dr. Steve Laverson has treated many thousands of such aging facial changes, and has found Juvederm and similar products also quite useful for filling selected facial hollows and depressions, lip enhancement, labial enhancement, and for other applications.
Advantages of Juvederm® and similar hyaluronic acid gel injectables are their safety, natural texture and appearance, and their total reversibility with injectable hyaluronidase (Vitrace®). Disadvantages of Juvederm® are cost and temporary effect. There is data to suggest, and Dr. Laverson has observed, that serial (repeated) treatments of some wrinkles and creases result in very long lasting (many years) correction. This phenomenon is thought due to deposition of collagen and tissue remodeling that occurs over time when certain creases have been filled for an extended period.
Anti-aging and tissue augmentation results can be dramatic, and very natural when applied by a skilled injector with expert anatomic knowledge and well developed aesthetic sense. When it comes to these expensive treatments, all injectors pay the same for this off the shelf product. Although there may be a slight difference in cost of treatment between practices, there may be a wide variation in results. Value of treatment depends not only upon the product, but technical elements of its use. Dr. Laverson treats under surgical magnification for precision placement of Juvederm® and similar hyaluronan gel fillers. This assures that every expensive drop of the product you have purchased will produce the best possible result.
Don’t be afraid of pain! Dr. Steve Laverson is compassionate, and believes beauty shouldn’t hurt! First, he numbs your skin surface, then, through the numb area, applies local anesthesia. The entire area to be treated will be insensate, and your treatment will be very nearly pain free.
Results are reversible and last for up to two years. The procedure is non-surgical, associated with minimal risks and/or side effects, and can be accomplished without discomfort during a thirty-minute office visit. Voluma™ is packaged in 2 ml syringes and is more costly than Juvederm XC.
