Full lips are attractive and alluring. They’re a sign of youth, fertility, and sensuality. It’s no surprise that women who are not born with full lips spend so much time and effort attempting to achieve the appearance of a luscious, kissable pout. But are these temporary methods really worth a lifetime of that effort? From makeup tricks to lip-plumping topical products and dermal fillers, many of the more common approaches to lip enhancement have to be reapplied, repurchased, and repeated so many times in order to maintain even the most mediocre results that it begs the question whether a more permanent option might be better in the long run. At Feel Beautiful, we certainly stand by temporary approaches to lip augmentation, especially for those who are still getting a feel for lip enhancement, but if you’ve been keeping your lips plump with repeated appointments for temporary solutions, maybe it’s time to try permanent lip augmentation.
Temporary approaches to lip augmentation
One of the best things about temporary lip augmentation procedures is that they’re…temporary. It’s always nice to have an opportunity to try something new without making a full commitment. For a person who has always wanted fuller, more sensuous lips but isn’t quite sure about making a permanent change, it might be best to start with a temporary solution and gradually shift to longer-lasting options. The most common approaches to temporarily achieving more lip volume include:
- Lip plumpers
These topically applied products temporarily induce swelling of the lips for a few hours. They can be purchased over the counter at makeup stores. Some may work better than others, and some may even promise plumping but really just add shine. It’s best to do some research and test products for skin irritants before using them for an event or public appearance.
- Injectable fillers
Injectable lip-plumping formulas containing hyaluronic acid can be used to customize the shape and size of lips for 6-8 months. Although semi-permanent, Dr. Laverson can adjust the amount used so that results are subtle. Additional units can always be added for a more dramatic change. If it’s your first time, it’s best to undergo the procedure a week or two prior to any special occasion.
After you’ve found a product that you like and you’ve used it long enough to know you’d like to maintain similar results for the long-term, you can discuss more permanent options with Dr. Laverson.
Permanent lip augmentation
If you’re ready to live your life free of repeat appointments and maintenance visits while still keeping your lips voluptuous and full, then maybe it’s time for permanent lip augmentation. Take a look below at three of the options we offer at Feel Beautiful.
- Lip augmentation with fat transfer
Fat transfer is a common technique for permanently enhancing the fullness of lips. Fat cells are extracted from the belly, the buttocks, or other fat-rich area of the patient’s own body. The fat cells are then purified and injected into the lips. This process can be repeated multiple times until the desired volume is achieved. Lip augmentation with fat transfer provides natural-looking results that last up to 5 years.
- Lip augmentation with AlloDerm
AlloDerm (acellular dermal matrix) is a sterile sheet of connective fiber donor tissue that’s used in a variety of plastic and reconstructive surgeries. In lip augmentation, the tissue is custom-sized and then inserted through the corners of the upper and lower lips for increased volume. Your tissues integrate with the AlloDerm matrix for natural softness and flexibility. Results can last for 5 years or more.
- Lip augmentation with Permalip® implant
Permalip® implant is a silicon-based implant that’s custom-contoured to match the shape of the lips and provide natural-looking fullness. Similar to the procedure used above, the implants are inserted through the corners of the lips. The highly specialized material used to create the Permalip® implant is soft and kissable, flexible and adaptable to the natural shape and movements of the mouth and yet will not rupture, deflate, degrade, or harden over time. Permalip® is the most permanent lip augmentation option available.
It’s important to remember that while all of these lip augmentation procedures have the potential to give you soft, natural, kissable lips, you also need a surgeon with skill, precision, artistry, and experience. Dr. Laverson has it all.
