Five advancements in cosmetic surgery applications and techniques have dramatically changed the results patients can achieve, but there are still limitations imposed by nature and the human body. Among the new and exciting possibilities for face and body are:
1. Browlifting
Traditional browlift techniques were associated with problems such as changed hairline, numbness of the scalp, visible scars, nerve injury, and relapse so that a lifted brow over time would descend back down near the pre-surgical level for a very short duration result.
The modern subcutaneous browlift avoids nerve injury, reliably lifts the brows, protects the hairline, and offers a permanent result.
2. Eye size, shape, and position
Eyelid position and configuration determine how much and which parts of the eye show at rest. The eyelids are like flexible doors that remain open when you are awake, but close when you blink or sleep.
Eyelid edges drape across the globe (eyeball) at angles that define your aesthetic. If the upper eyelids droop excessively, a tired appearance results.
Modern eyelid procedures (“blepharoplasty”) can open the eyelids more for a youthful awake appearance, shape the eyelids (“cat eye canthopexy”) so the outer corners are elevated higher than the inner corners, and tighten or smooth the lower eyelids along with the cheek for a more naturally youthful and beautiful presentation.
3. Feminine body shaping
Fat removal from areas of excess such as the waist, flanks, thighs, and arms followed by transfer of that fat to areas for augmentation such as breasts, hips, and buttocks can create or enhance feminine curves as desired.
These are complex procedures best planned and performed in accredited operating rooms by board-certified plastic surgeons and anesthesiologists.
Body position changes are often required during these procedures for access to the front and the back of the body for fat removal, fat transfer, and body shaping.
Post-surgical garments custom-fitted to each patient’s body measurement add comfort after the procedure and help smooth, stabilize, and support transferred fat.
4. Control your nose size and shape
Rhinoplasty is among the most historically popular cosmetic surgery procedures and remains widely requested.
Many technical “nose job” innovations offer men and women considering rhinoplasty the best and most predictable results ever.
A smaller feminine nose with a slightly lifted tip and delicate shape, a stronger masculine nose with angular contours, a more narrow base of the nose with smaller nostrils, and the removal of a bump on top of the nose are routine changes.
Still, only surgeons with a strong background of training, qualifications, and experience incorporate these modern approaches and will consistently provide the best rhinoplasty results.
5. Breast augmentation by fat transfer
Women with “tuberous” or “tubular” breast shapes previously had only augmentation with implants as a treatment option.
Breast implants are associated with a variety of problems such as the potential for hardening, breast shape and position change from capsular contracture, rupture of the implants with deflation (saline implants), or messy silicone distribution (gel implants).
Implants may produce visible rippling and/or wrinkling of the breast. The lifetime of breast implants is unpredictable.
Fat transfer after obliteration of fibrous bands along the lower portion of tuberous breasts can produce a nice natural breast shape with a more normal aesthetic augmented distribution of breast volume.
