Labia Lift – A San Diego Original

Year round swimsuit opportunities and fitness lifestyle in San Diego have promoted a larger population of women presenting for labiaplasty surgery.  Labiaplasty is a lifting and reduction procedure for women who want improved comfort, less visibility, less distraction, easier hygiene, and a generally more trim contour of their reproductive skin.  Waxing and shaving increase visible detail, and many wish for a more compact appearance.  Our innovation is a new and original technique for lifting the labia majora, the outer lips of female genitalia.  Weight loss, aging, multiple births, or inherited anatomy may result in loose, wrinkled, redundant, sagging vulvar skin that pokes out from swimsuit edges or is visible through or around other athletic gear.  Friction in tight jeans and self-consciousness with partners are common complaints.

Our philosophy is that patients should always have final control over their own body.  Although you cannot perform the surgery on yourself, you should have as much control as possible over the result.  Labia lift is an awake office procedure that lasts about two hours under local anesthesia.  Planning involves several weeks off from physically demanding activities and arranging a ride home so we can provide sedation for the most relaxing experience.  We use a surgical skin marker to outline a carefully designed and positioned crescent of the extra hanging skin at the back of the labia majora in the mirror so you see and agree with the operative plan before anything is done.    The crescent excision is an obscure suture closure, within the natural anatomic boundary between perineum, thighs, and infra-gluteal (below the butt cheeks) crease.  You, your partner(s), and anyone examining the area will never know you had a procedure.  The idea is for you to appear totally normal and our experience has been that the scar visually melts away.  Hanging labia majora is lifted and reduced.  Vulvar skin between thighs is more trim, elevated, comfortable, and better controlled.

Dr. Steve Laverson innovated this “Nike Swoosh” pattern labia majora-plasty because other described techniques have not offered the quality of result our patients wanted.   Our crescent posterior labia lift allows a greater reduction and lift, and also maintains normal appearance of the labia majora crest which is important to conceal inner labia lips, the labia minora.  Labia minora reduction is our most common labiaplasty procedure, but for many women, excess or sagging labia majora skin of the outer lips is an issue that previous procedures have not successfully resolved.
