High Profile VS Moderate Breast Implants

A beautiful, sexy body is all about aesthetically pleasing contours and balanced proportion. When it comes to breast augmentation, choosing the right implant is an important step toward achieving your desired results. But this goes far beyond just knowing your preferred cup size. While the range of sizes and shapes may seem overwhelming at first, you don’t have to make the decision on your own. Dr. Laverson will take the time to help you understand your options and choose the right implants for your frame and desired results. In the meantime, here’s a quick overview of the two most popular breast implant profiles: high profile and moderate profile breast implants.

What is an implant profile?

The term “implant profile” refers to the overall shape of the breast implant. This shape is determined by the implant’s dimensions, including:

  • Base width / diameter — This measurement determines where the implant begins at the center line of your chest to where it ends on the side.
  • Volume — The amount of overall space that the implant occupies. Similar to cup size, but measured in cubic centimeters.
  • Projection — How far the implant extends forward.

Even slight differences in any of these dimensions can have a significant impact on the overall shape of the implant and its proportion to your frame.

High profile vs. moderate breast implants

Implant profiles range from low to ultra high.  Low breast implant profiles have the broadest base diameter and the least projection, and ultra high implant profiles have the narrowest base diameter and the most projection and fullness. Most women opt for breast implants somewhere in the middle range, with moderate and high implant profiles being the most popular.

Moderate implant profile – Has a slightly smaller base diameter (width) than low profile implants, but more volume and fullness.  This implant shape is popular for its balance of volume and cleavage while also offering a more natural appearance than higher-profile implants. Best for patients with a medium frame and breast width. See before and after picture with higher profile implants

High implant profile – Has an even smaller base diameter than moderate implants, and provides a full, round appearance, with significant projection.  This implant shape is popular for providing luscious volume but does offer less emphasis on cleavage. Best for patients with small frames and a desire for more dramatic results.

Choosing the right implant profile

Most women who come to our office for breast augmentation have an idea of the cup size they want, which does give Dr. Laverson a general idea of the approximate size breasts the patient hopes for and how natural or dramatic their desired results. But choosing the right breast implant is as much science as it is art. In addition to Dr. Laverson’s eye for aesthetics, precision is an important part of his practice. His evaluative process for determining the right implant for breast augmentation patients involves precise measurements of the patient’s:

  • Chest width
  • Base breast width
  • Breast proximity (distance between breasts)
  • Breast symmetry
  • Skin laxity

These and other measurements help ensure that the chosen implant profile fits the patient’s frame and achieves the sexiest and most feminine contours.
