San Diego Asian Rhinoplasty | Ethnic Rhinoplasty

Nose proportions and shape vary among broad ethnic groups and genetic backgrounds. Exactly why is not known for certain, but recent research shows that climate adaptation may play a major role. Regardless of why these variations exist, differential features among ethnicities may influence applied ethnic rhinoplasty and nose job techniques.  Nasal features among East Asians and Southeast Asians demonstrate wide variation within groups but share features that differentiate them from other ethnicities.

Common Reasons for an Asian Nose Job

Reasons for Asian nose reshaping and ethnic rhinoplasty in San Diego stem from these frequent observations by patients about their noses:

  • Low, wide nasal bridge
  • Hooded nostrils
  • Thick nostril skin
  • Deficient nasal septum
  • Wide nasal base
  • Inadequate tip projection
  • Bulbous tip
  • Short nose
  • Flaring nose

If you have one or more of the above features that you wish to change, Asian rhinoplasty approaches developed in the Far East and in the West offer possible solutions to adjust elements of your nose to complement other facial features. Our San Diego rhinoplasty surgeon will preserve your natural beauty and cultural identity.

Asian rhinoplasty

A successful rhinoplasty must take into account the patient’s race, culture, and ethnicity. The goal of Asian and ethnic rhinoplasty is to achieve facial harmony while still retaining the nasal features that are intrinsic to the patient’s overall appearance. Any ethnic rhinoplasty requires a thorough understanding of nasal anatomy differences across races and ethnicities as well as a high level of technical skill needed to achieve subtle balance. Most Asian people prefer a natural-appearing cosmetic rhinoplasty enhancement of their features rather than dramatic changes based on Caucasian ideals. Asian nose jobs, rhinoplasty, often focus on a few particular changes, rather than the creation of a brand new nose.

Asian & Ethnic Rhinoplasty Plastic Surgery Treatment Plans

Depending on the specific rhinoplasty and plastic surgery treatment plan, Dr. Laverson may focus on one or more of the following during an Asian rhinoplasty procedure:

  • Raise, strengthen and define the bridge
  • Increase the tip projection
  • Narrow the nasal tip
  • Elevate the nasal tip (reduce the drooping appearance)
  • Refine the nostrils for a smaller and more delicate appearance
  • Widen the nose for better proportion
  • Create a longer and straighter overall appearance

Similar to other rhinoplasty procedures, the specifics of each surgery will vary depending on the desired outcome.  The rhinoplasty surgery may involve the removal or addition of cartilage, the use of grafting tissues or implants, reshaping and repositioning tissue, or any other surgical techniques that will best help achieve facial harmony.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty for Asian noses

Nose job surgery (rhinoplasty) is a big commitment. But in certain cases a temporary non-surgical solution is available. Non-surgical rhinoplasty, also called a liquid nose job, involves the use of dermal fillers in precise locations to alter the nose for a more pleasing appearance. Although the non-surgical rhinoplasty nose job is not appropriate for every case, it can be used to add volume to a nasal bridge or to soften a nasal hump. Many Asians and African-Americans find that these small changes work beautifully to harmonize their features. Depending on the specific rhinoplasty procedure, the results of a liquid nose job can hold up for 9 to 18 months. If you don’t mind returning for maintenance treatments, you may not need surgery at all. On the other hand, if you love the results of your liquid nose job, we’re pretty sure you’ll be even more thrilled with your forever nose.
