A Zoom Boom for Plastic Surgery

We’re all aware that online grocery delivery, disinfecting products, and streaming services have continued thriving during the post-pandemic period.  Another perhaps unexpected change is that plastic surgery has become much more popular.  Suspected reasons for the boost in elective cosmetic surgeries (the plastic surgery “zoom boom”) following the coronavirus pandemic include:

  • More downtime

The 2020 stay-at-home orders turned out to have a silver lining for Americans living on a “hamster wheel” of busy-ness who couldn’t see any other way of living. COVID lock-downs forced us into a slower way of life, reminding us how important down time really is.  Now, many understand it’s not such a big deal to plan recovery time after a life-changing facelift, rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, Brazilian Butt Lift, tummy tuck, or liposuction

  • Online video meetings

The profusion of online video meetings and employees working from home is forcing us to stare at our own faces every day through lenses, from angles, and in lighting situations that are rarely flattering. The more time spent looking at the bump on ones nose, the sagging neck, the sleepy eyes, and other adjustable features, the more often a person might think about the nose job , the necklift, or the eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) they’ve been wanting.

Those who work from home have the added benefit of being seen at work only from the neck up, making it easier to recover from body procedures such as a tummy tuck or a breast augmentation procedure, and without taking as much time off from work.

  • Masks

Masks do more than just protect the coronavirus from spreading. They also hide the lower face, enabling an individual to go out into the world without embarrassment before their lower face plastic surgery treatments have settled or healed. Permanent lip augmentation, lip lift, chin implant, and other procedures may be swollen and out of proportion for weeks, but this evidence of recovery is easily concealed from view by a mask.

  • Focus on self-care

When our lives quieted down during the height of the pandemic, it gave us time to think about what really matters, and what we really want out of life. For many women and men, the idea of self-care goes hand-in-hand with valuing each day and not putting off their happiness for later. Whether that self-care involves a hot stone massage, a brow lift, or a breast lift is completely a matter of personal preference.

  • More discretionary income

The stay-at-home orders during 2020 kept most of us home, spending less money than we were accustomed to spending. Some people are still avoiding international travel, trips to amusement parks, and even outings to local destinations where large crowds gather.  This means they can spend their discretionary income in other ways. Where one person might buy the expensive car they always wanted, another might finally get a mommy makeover to restore her body’s pre-pregnancy contours.

What about you? Have you gotten plastic surgery in the last year or so? Are you considering it more now than you did in the years before COVID? We’d love to know your thoughts.
