The La Jolla Blue Book has listed down biking paths that can be enjoyed by both avid cyclists and casual bikers. The 12-Mile Mission Bay Bike Path is among the routes mentioned in their list.
“The route starts at 850 W. Mission Bay Drive in San Diego and passes through or near more than 10 public parks, two wildlife reserves, and a portion of the San Diego River. Bring your picnic basket, a frisbee and swimsuit, and a pair of binoculars to enjoy the parks and reserves to their fullest extent. The San Diego County Bicycle Coalition’s recommended route incorporates almost 12 miles of flat, scenic bike paths along most of the interior of the bay; with the exception of a few short sections, the route is vehicle free.”

The website GoPedal.com meanwhile shared various scenic biking paths in and around San Diego. They grouped their recommendations according to the type of route – how steep it is, how challenging, and what cycling level it is best for.
For instance, in their article, they said that the best intermediate to expert route is along the Pacific Coast Highway.
“Lastly, the Pacific Coast Highway, or PCH, is our number one choice for both training and scenic rides. This intermediate to expert route is easily accessible throughout San Diego’s coastal county from Del Mar up to Carlsbad and Oceanside. The San Diego Tourism Authority has suggested biking routes to take with children. The routes take into consideration their safety, and the views that will surely awe them among other considerations for children.
The article recommends the Carlsbad Coastal Rail Trail is their top recommended route for families with very young bikers.
