Mentor, a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson, recently added to their portfolio of breast implants by introducing the Ultra High Profile, which offers women the choice of going larger. Although women and surgeons select implants by a variety of pathways, generally, the implant must add enough volume to achieve the desired breast size. Available skin envelope of the breast must be sufficient to accommodate the device, and base width of the implant must roughly match the base width of the native breast to produce the most aesthetic result.
Ultra-High profile Mentor implants offer higher profile (projection from the chest wall) for the same base width of previously available implants. Selection of Ultra-High profile delivers a larger cup size and fills out excess breast skin better than lower profile prostheses, but disadvantages include the potential for more skin stretching and thinning over time, diminished nipple sensation, and greater implant edge visibility.
Dr. Laverson has used Ultra-High profile implants in several women, and found initial patient satisfaction to be high.
